In seasons 1-8 the shippers place bids on two of the shipments listed on uShip, using a reverse auction format. Bids are generally made with statements about the likely risk and costs, as well as the motives and abilities. If the time limit expires for an auction, the job will be awarded to the bidder who has the lowest bid. The client's discretion however, the job could be awarded to a bidder with an average rating of higher over previous customers. If the bidder is lowest, any ties will be dissolved by the feedback rating. Season 9 shippers are able to receive their cargo through the shipping broker. They are not aware of the bidding process. Instead, the winners load their cargo, and then try and deliver it intact within the timeframe of the recipient or the client. Client feedback ratings are displayed after the loads have been delivered. The show ends with the revenue of each shipper and expenses. The amount of the bid is subtracted to calculate the total profit and loss. Sometimes, shippers will arrange to haul several additional loads in the same journey, adding the extra cash into their total. In certain instances, the shipper will be unable to complete a job due to concerns regarding the size/weight of the load or road safety. Sometimes, one or more shippers will solicit the assistance of another to help complete an assignment. The shippers decide what to do with the proceeds. In the first eight seasons the progress of each ship is interspersed with funny criticisms from other shippers.
