Rauw Alejandro

Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and went on to become the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It was a mix of reggaeton and pop was not only a way to bring renewed interest for reggaeton, it was also an attraction towards Latin music generally. In 2015, there were only two predominantly Spanish-language tracks on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity, however 19 predominantly Spanish tracks made it into the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 the number of songs that made it was 41. Justin Bieber's remix in two languages Despacito came out in the year 2017. Then, popular artists began working with reggaeton singers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018) while Madonna has collaborated with Maluma on Medellin. In 2020, a few Reggaeton artists were complaining about the direction of the genre towards the mainstream. But, the younger generation, Rauw Alejandro was determined to push forward the progression. His style often included elements of electronic dance music, along with other styles.
